Soft

I'm not feeling very well this evening, so just a short post from me.

The 'Bristle' shot from yesterday was in fact, a bit of Tim's beard, so congrats to those who guessed!

Speaking about Tim, this is the beginnings of his first attempt at beading. He has made loads of jewellery before, but has never tried beading. I took this shot last night, just before I toddled off to bed and since then, he has tightened it up a bit and started to add loops along the bottom. I think it's fabby!

The word today is 'Soft'. I've been using paper towels at work to blow my nose, so it's lovely to come home to these nice soft tissues!

Tim invited Irene and Zander over for dinner this evening. He cooked pork loin steaks and pootato wedges coated with Chinese five spice, honey and orange juice and this was served with kale. It was wonderful. He followed this with his rasperry and blackberry, Greek yoghurt and coulis dessert. I think Irene and Zander enjoyed it!

Thart's it for me tonight. Hopefully I'll be feeling better again tomorrow.

Bristle, bristle, bristle .....

..... it's one of those words that, the more you say it, or read it, the less sense it seems to make! However, that is the word today over on HSMS and here is my shot.
Any idea what it is? lol

Tim and Kerry came to take me for lunch today, as promised, to Frankie & Benny's. It's lucky that my office is very close to Aberdeen Pleasure Beach and there is a multiplex cinema, 10 pin bowling, an all-year fun fair, along with a Burger King, Frankie & Benny's, Chiquito's, Pizza Hut, Jimmy Chung's, TGI Friday's and quite a few other restaurants. Have to admit though, that F & B's is my favourite!

I had a chicken triple decker club sandwich with fries, followed by a toffee waffle with ice cream. OMG, it was divine!

Just to clarify from yesterday's post ..... I will be blogging (I hope) up until Sunday evening, then I'll be having a week off. I'm hoping to still be able to see most of your blogs when I've got a spare minute at work though!

I've taken quite a fancy to doing an art journal. Kerry wants to do one and it's very tempting for me. I'm just not sure that I'm 'arty' enough. I think I'll have a go, but not until after the Christmas and New Year celebrations are over and done with!

Smoooooooth

We had to find 'smooth' in our space today and this is mine. I love peanut butter ...... the smoother, the better. When I was younger, I liked the crunchy sort, but now my teeth aren't so strong, I much prefer this!

I won't be playing much, if any, next week because Tim's parents are coming up for the week and, seeing as how I'm going to be at work every day, it wouldn't be very fair or polite to disappear into my craft room to come online every evening! His mum and dad are lovely, lovely people. They've never been up here in the winter time, so I hope they're prepared for the icy blasts!! lol

Tim is going to Aberdeen tomorrow to hand in some time sheets to Uni and to get my birthday pressie! Woohooooo!! I don't have a clue what it is, but Kerry knows and she says I will definitely like it! He's taking her through tomorrow as well because she wants to get some things for the kids' stockings, so they're going to come and take me out to lunch. Yummy! I think we'll be going to Frankie & Benny's. Oh yeah!

Taking the Rough with the Smooth

So today's word over on HSMS is 'Rough'. My plan was to take a shot of a sanding block, but I couldn't get it to look even remotely interesting, so here is a wodge of steel wool instead. I use this stuff to roughen metal tins and suchlike to prepare them for altering. Have to watch out for sharp bits getting poked into your skin though!

After reading SuzyB's blog last night and looking at her Christmas Journal, I have gone and signed up up for the classes too. I have no idea if I'll actually have time to make a journal over Christmas, but I'll try!

Driving home from work tonight, it was totally pitch dark and raining - exactly how it was when we drove TO work this morning. I feel as if I haven't seen daylight at all today.

I'm back!

I was filled with good intentions last week of coming online early every day and doing the prompts, promptly. Unfortunately, this never came to fruition and I haven't blogged for a whole week. Very lazy of me. But life just seemed to get in the way!

So by way of some sort of catchup, here are a few shots from the past week .....

This is my fridge door, with it's gorgeous grain. The handle is well worn, as you can see! lol

Next is 'Thirsty'. Tim is growing some herbs in a pot and they always seem to need watering! Some of the seeds just refused to germinate though.

As I mentioned last week, Tim and I went to a Star Wars-themed dinner party at a friend's house. Before we went there, I took this shot of Tim and I, so this is my SPS for 24th!

Here are all the guests! Clockwise from back left:-

Jedi Knight (Tim) ..... Lord of the Sith ..... Princess Amadala ..... Darth Vader ..... (a hilarious) Luke Skywalker ..... Princess Leia ..... Imperial Guard ..... Dark Lady of the Sith (me).

There were two cameras set to self-time, so we weren't sure which one to look at. Obviously, I chose the wrong one! lol

Finally, here's today's word over on HSMS .... 'Wet'. I tried taking a shot of a wet tomato, but somehow I just couldn't get it to look like it did in my mind. So I took a shot of Tim's hands instead. lol

In my week off, I made Tim's costume and also altered one of mine ..... we went Christmas shopping last Thursday in Aberdeen and promised ourselves we wouldn't come home till we finished ...... and we MADE IT!! Yay.
All done.
Finished.
Apart from the grandchildren's stuff, which we can now buy at our leisure, safe in the knowledge we have everyone's else's bought!

I also got our turkey for Christmas dinner ordered from the butcher. All 24lb of it. Good thing I have a huge oven. I think it's really a Tardis oven because it looks quite small from the outside, but it always amazes me how much I can fit inside it. Apart from the huge turkey, it takes three massive casserole dishes and smaller ones alongside too. Magic, it really is magic!

He's home!

And all is well in my world! :) Tim's flight was delayed from Heathrow (no surprise there, then) so it was quite late by the time we got home, hence no post yesterday.

So here's my 'Away' for yesterday, Although I TOOK this shot yesterday, it wasn't ABOUT yesterday. lol

Moving swiftly on, here's my SPS for today. I was taking shots in the garden early this morning and the sun was casting great shadows - and this is mine! It was really, really chilly out there and I was all wrapped up with my winter jacket on .... and no, my camera isn't growing out of my neck ... honest it isn't!

Tim and I are invited to a 'Star Wars' themed dinner party next Saturday. We've known about it for weeks and weeks and yet, here we are with only a few days to go and we still haven't done anything about our costumes. I'm making a Jedi outfit for Tim, but have no idea what to do for me. Yikes!

I've been very industrious today so far. I've been up since before 7.00am and have already taken lots of photographs and done three loads of washing, with another in the machine as I type. The washing line is almost full and the clothes are blowing nicely in the breeze. I've been in to town twice .... first time for the morning paper and the second time for fresh milk.

Here's a thing - why was is, when I made my tea this morning at 7.00am, the milk in the fridge was fine. Yet when Tim got up two hours later, the milk had turned. How does it happen so quickly????? On the upside, when I went to get the fresh milk, I also bought a pack of croissants. OMG - they were divine! :)

Miniature!

That's the word of the day over on HSMS. Tim has a huge selection of Single Malt whiskies and occasionally, friends and family buy him miniature versions of his full-sized bottles. Here is a set of Glenmorangies!

I loathe whisky. Ack, ack and triple ack. The smell is enough to make me retch. lol

I've had visitors all evening, so it's a short post for me tonight. I'm on holiday after work tomorrow - for a whole week! AND, Tim will be home tomorrow evening too. Whit whoooooooooo!!

Wednesday, 14 November 2007

Apart from stash .....

.... I don't really collect anything, so I really didn't have a clue how to do today's word. Then on the way home from work, inspiration struck. My BIL collects me every day on the way to work and takes me home again at night! Here is the mighty chariot that we travel in! Although it's old, it's perfect for commuting and very comfortable too!

I was asked over to Irene and Zander's new house for supper tonight. Mince, potatoes and heaps of other yummy veggies - all washed down with a nice Aussie red. Absolutely fabbydabby, it was!

I'd no sooner got back home, when Tim rang. He's having a great time in the foothills of the Pyrenees. They're going out for a meal tonight in a really old part of a little town, then tomorrow evening they're driving back to Barcelona where they're being taken out for another meal! Then he'll be home on Friday!! I'll have to take my own car in to work on Friday because I have to hang around the airport, waiting for his flight to arrive. I finish work at 3.30pm, but his flight isn't due back here until gone 6.00pm. I just know I'm going to be falling asleep! lol

A Snip........

...... is another word for a bargain.

But is this really a bargain??? It still seems mighty expensive for a TV!

Catching up again!

I haven't blogged since Thursday. How bad is that???? It was a result of being very tired on Friday, then going to a crop on Saturday and feeling a bit bleughhhh generally all weekend. I'm getting really bad reflux when I go to bed at night. Burning in my throat, wanting to belch all the time, coughing and being sick. No fun at 2.30am, when you've been trying to get to sleep since 9.00pm and have to get up at 4.30am. I think I'll have to go to the doc next week when I've got ...............a week's holiday! Whit whoooooooo!!

Ok, so here are my catch-up shots ..........

Disturbed. Easy one. Anyone looking through the window would definitely think we were disturbed when they see this collection of horrible stuff lying on the floor! lol

SPS .......

Me looking at the world through the bottom of a glass! *hic*

Today's word is 'Almost'. Here is our study with the bookshelves so full, there's almost no more room for any more! It may look as though this is an untidy mess, but .................. well, ok, it IS an untidy mess!

That's me just about caught up now, I think.

So on Saturday, Kerry and I had another thoroughly enjoyable day our local crop. I managed to get one LO done, apart from the title, which I did yesterday. I took this shot of Cameron and Aaliyah larking around a few weeks ago and I love it. They're having fun together and pulling silly faces, as kids do! DCWV 'Rock star' stack, with my own doodled-and-cut-out flowers. It's nothing innovative or anything, but I'm kinda pleased with how it looks. Only one thing bugs me about it ...... I've printed the 'N' the wrong way round! lol

Tim is off to the Pyrenees again this week. It's only till Friday, but it seems much longer.

Oh woe is me! No more gorgeous food and cakes till he gets back. I'm on a diet of takeaways and sandwiches till then! lol

Anxious!

I'm definitely not a person who is prone to anxiousness. Decidedly the opposite, I think. But if there's one thing that gets me every time, it's the wind. I don't mind a gentle breeze, or even the odd gust or two, but when it gets like it is today, you're gosh-darned-tootin' I get anxious. We've had really strong gales all day, although I've been at work and haven't been aware of them. According to Tim, we even had a power-cut for a couple of hours this afternoon!

Now however, I'm home and the noise in the house is just horrendous and yes, I'm anxious. Anxious that the roof will come off, that the windows will blow in, that the steading doors will become detached from their hinges and end up smashing into Tim's car ....... you name it, I'm anxious about it!

So it was with great trepidation that I wrapped up warmly and went into the garden to try to photograph the wind. This is the result ........

I only took this one shot, because as soon as I set foot outside, the hailstones started to batter down. My poor ears were pinged by quite a few and my camera just didn't want to know. I think the hailstones were confusing it!

So is it just me, or can anyone else see the strangeness of this shot?

It appears that the trees are blowing from right to left (which is correct, by the way), but the hailstones seem to be blowing from left to right. Decidedly odd.

Now I'd like to say a HUGE 'thank you' to Mommaba for the "Amazing Blogger" award! I'm not so sure I deserve it, but I'm thrilled all the same!

Tim's been doing his Nigella impression whilst I was at work and came up with this masterpiece!!

Delissssssssshus!!!

Oh what a tangled web we weave

when first we practice to deceive. So said Sir Walter Scott - famous Scottish writer.

Well, I'm not practicing to deceive, but the wires in this shot are definitely a tad tangled ............... and confused!

That's the word over on HSMS today .... Confused.

My car still isn't fixed yet. Tim never heard from them today, so either they've been too busy to look at it, or it's a big job. Hope it's the former!

Kerry and Simon are off to Parent's Night at school. Can't believe that three of their four kids are at school and the fourth is at school nursery. Anyway - they asked me if I would babysit, but Tim's gone in to do it instead because I'm so tired. He's such a darling.

Sorry for the short post today, folks.

Feelin' hot, hot , hot!

So when I got home from work, we immediately had to go out again, to collect Tim's car from the garage, where it was in getting a fuel leak repaired. When we got there, he collected his car and I dropped mine off, because it's started making the most fearsome racket when I reach 50mph and over. It's like the noise you get when you're driving in too high a gear for the speed you're doing. It's sooooo loud!! Hope (a) that the garage can fix it - and (b) it isn't too expensive.

When we got back home again, Tim said we were having this for supper .......

Oooooh yum, said I, before going upstairs to get washed and changed out of my working clothes. Why is it that I'm comfortable enough all day in them, but as soon as I set foot indoors at home, I can't wait to get into something loose and baggy?

I digress......

When I came back down, looking the picture of loveliness with my huge baggy fleece jumper and my black mid-calf length leggings on, not forgetting my black fake Crocs, Tim was busy chopping some flat leafed parsley .......

By this time, the food on the hob smelled divine and I was getting excited (which just so happens to be the word of the day over on HSMS. Fab link there, eh? lol) so I laid the table and cut the french stick.

Tim then served it up .......

...... which leads me neatly back to the title of this post. There were chillies in it and it was HOT!!!! Not according to Tim, who loves spicy food - but to my delicate and sensitive palate it was, in fact, hot! That's not to say it wasn't absolutely delicious, because it was! It just nipped my throat and my tongue and my lips a bit too much. Having said that, I still finished it and wished there was more!

Always look on the bright side of life .......

..... as Eric Idle sang! And I do. Look on the bright side, that is.

The word today over on HSMS, is 'Sad'. Well, the absolute worst thing that could ever happen (every parent's nightmare), has already happened to me - so now I know that nothing that could ever happen, could possibly make me that sad again. So my philosophy now is, to smile and try to be positive about all things. It doesn't always work, but most of the time it does.

So, I had major problems finding something sad ..... and this is the best I could do. It's a bamboo plant that my YD Jodie bought for my granny's birthday three years ago, just a couple of weeks before granny died. It's been going downhill for a while now and despite watering and feeding, I think it's just come to the end of its life. I shall keep it till it's all yellow though .... just in case it should come back to life with a vengeance!

Bonfire night and the fireworks are banging and hissing away like mad ... even out here in the sticks. I refuse to have them. I think all sales of fireworks to the public should be banned and there should only be organised displays.

Am I turning into a grumpy old woman?

Don't answer that!

Anyone for tennis ...... or golf?

I'm delving into my B&W archive again to day to bring you another photograph of my three kids when they were small. This was taken in late summer 1988 at the public tennis courts in Fraserburgh. Even then Jodie had a fabulous sense of fun! I was trying to keep the kids' lives as normal as possible after losing my first DH - their dad - just a couple of months previously.

It's a bit grainy because I had used the wrong setting on the old camera, but I still love this shot!

Well, the golf tournament on the Wii went well for the guys yesterday evening! Great fun and hilarity was had by all, judging by the laughs that I heard whilst sitting up here in my craft room!
Here are Peter, Ian, Gordon and Tim (pretending to be Charlie's Angels! lol)before they actually started.

Then they did their 'catalogue' poses! Tee heeeee!!

In the end, Ian emerged triumphant!

They didn't get finished till after 2.00am, then I drove them all home. Taxis are a nightmare to get hold of on a Saturday night and they had all had a few(!) beers, so wouldn't have been able to drive themselves.

Tim's off again today to his swordfighting class, so I'm hoping to get some crafting done in between trying to scale the twin peaks of washing and ironing!

I've been tagged again - this time by Kate and it's about crafty stuff! Answer 5 questions, link to whoever sent the tag to you, then nominate 2 others by linking to them and letting them know on their blogs!

Ok, here goes:

1. If you could have £100 worth of scrapbook paper or assorted embellishments, which would you choose?

Definitely the scrapbook paper and card. A girl can never have enough!

2. If you had to choose between using only stamps or rubons, which would you choose?

Stamps - absolutely and without a shadow of a doubt. I love them completely!!

3. If you knew how to do both awesome cards and layouts but could only do one for a whole year...which would you do?

Layouts, every time. I'm a very slow scrapper so to have a whole year to do nothing BUT layouts would be bliss

4. Would you rather own a scrapbooking store or have your own scrapping room at home...(can't have both he he he)

I think I'd go for the store, then I would order in stock that I want, then keep it all to myself!! OK, not a very good business plan, but OOOOOH what fun!!

5. And last but not least, what is your CURRENT cardmaking or scrapping style.

I think this is where my problems lie ... I don't think I have a style. Maybe if I did, things would be easier. I suppose if I had to say, I would go for vintage and heritage. I love getting things to look old, used and loved.

Well now I have to nominate 2 more people!
I don't think Ellie has done this one .... and neither has Sue, so that's who I'm going for!

SPS and a Tag!

I've been tagged again this morning by the gorgeous Diana - more of which further down!

It's SPS again already. The weeks really seem to be flying in nowadays! I took this as I sat at the kitchen table this morning, having my cuppa and playing a Scrabble word game on my Nintendo DS Lite. I even play these sort of games at 5.00am each day before I go to work. Fabby way to awaken the brain in the morning! lol

Ok, back to the tag......
Here are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself: some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
4. Let them know they've been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

Here we go .......

1. I met Tim on the internet in mid-1997. He moved up here from Northampton, so we could be together, on 1st December 1997 - almost 10 years ago. We got married in July 2000.

2. Like Di, I'm a qualified PADI diver, but haven't dived for quite a few years.

3. I'm also a qualified Marine Mammal Medic, which means I get calls to help rescue stranded or injured whales, dolphins, seals etc.

4. I'm practically blind in my right eye after a childhoood squint was left unattended by the doctor for too long.

5. I have a bronze badge for donating 25 pints of blood. I stopped giving blood when I started getting tattoos!

6. Talking of tattoos ...... I've won numerous prizes and trophies for my tattoos at various tattoo conventions in the UK and N. Ireland. I've also had my photo in Skin Deep (UK Tattoo mag) a few times!

7. I love stationery!! If I had loads of money, I could quite happily spend squillions of pounds on notebooks, pens, pencils, folders etc etc. lol

Done!!!

Now I tag ...

Angela
Kate
Lynsey
Deanne
Marina
Maaike
Louise

I've tried to tag people who may not have been tagged yet, so sorry if any of you have been tagged already!!

So what have I got planned for today? Ummmmm ... not much really. We'll be going in to town later for some goodies because Tim has some friends coming out here tonight to play a golf tournament on the Wii. He's even got a trophy engraved to give to the winner! Boys and their toys, eh?

Anyway, whilst we're in town, I wonder if I can persuade him to go the craft shop for a browse. They sell jewellery-making stuff too, so it shouldn't be too hard. I haven't been there for quite a few weeks now, so I'm hoping they've got some spiffing new stash in! It seems like a lifetime ago that I worked there.

It's Dark O'clock!

It's almost dark by the time I get home from work now, so I had to use the flash to get a half-decent shot of my garden, because that is the word of the day on HSMS.

This is just a small part of my garden, but you can just about see the mutant holly tree in the distance towards the right! If you haven't been playing long, you won't know that my holly tree has normal, spiky leaves at the bottom, but towards the top - well from about half-way up in fact - the leaves have started growing without the spikes! lol

There are SOOOOO many berries on it this year. A sign of a bad winter, I'm told.

Also in my garden, is a baby Monkey-Puzzle tree. It was a gift from Jodie because she knew I had always wanted one and I've had it for two years now. It's a bit sad and sorry looking in this shot because it's covered with bits of grass, weeds and leaves. Must be Autumn!

I'm having a nice glass of wine just now. You know why?

Because I don't have work tomorrow, so I can!!! Yay! :)

Chill

The word of the day over on HSMS is 'Fridge' - and here's mine. This is the outside - yes, it's got a wooden door. No fridge magnets or fabby magnetic words for me! Instead, I've got washing machine magnets!! lol

And here is the inside!

The Utterly Butterly (yeuch!) is Tim's and the Lurpak (yummmmmm) is mine! The Guinness is Tim's - the Bud's are mine. The bacon is Tim's - the fruit is mine. The double cream is mine, mine , mine!!! lolol

So tonight, Tim cooked chicken breasts with a peppery, oniony, tomatoey topping, accompanied by baby carrots and potato wedges with a honey, lemon and paprika coating. Oh, it was delishhhhhhh!!!

My new toy arrived today ..... a Bind-it-All machine!! Woohooooo! Haven't had time to play with it yet and I probably won't till tomorrow night, when it is officially the weekend! :)
