Almost Hogmanay!

Tomorrow is Hogmanay up here in Scotland and we are getting ready to celebrate in true Scottish style!

But before any of that, here are a couple of shots from Christmas Day.

First, my younger daughter Jodie/ I take no credit for this one because she took it herself, with my DSLR. I think she's done a grand job! She's wearing a Santa hat, by the way!

Speaking about the Santa hat ..... my niece's Westie (Maggie) decided that she wanted to wear it too ..............

Doesn't she look cute? :)

Lastly for today, here's a shot I took a couple of days ago, of fallen holly berries in the grass, under my old holly tree. You definitely need to click on this one to enlarge it!

I was playing Wii Winter Sports with Tim yesterday evening and my arms are really sore today! WIth the speed skating, you have to REALLY use your arms and it's sooooo tiring! I was useless at the skiing, not great at the skating, but even though I do say so myself, I kicked ass at the bobleigh, luge etc! Great fun!

Back to work

I can hardly believe that Christmas is over again for another year. It doesn't feel like it should be over except that I'm back at work already. Booooooooo. I really didn't want to get up this morning and I've been sleepy all day - so much so, that I'm dying for bedtime to come round! Ah well, only tomorrow to work, then I'm off again till next Thursday.

I've booked Monday off because it's Hogmanay!! Yay! Then of course, being Scotland, the 1st AND the 2nd are holidays. Yay again!

No Christmas shots today - just a couple that I took on 21st and that I happen to like.

Although it's a lot dark at the right of this shot, I really like the soft pastel shades of this early morning shot, taken round the back of my steadings. I think you can see it better if you click to get a bigger view.

I really like this one!

I found this poor little mushroom in the grass not far away from my front door!

Tim bought me a Wacom Bamboo Tablet and Pen for Crimbo and I'm trying hard to get used to it. For those that don't know, it's used like your mouse, but you hold the pen like ..... well, like a pen! lol The action is totally different from the mouse, but I'm trying to persevere! You can also use it to 'write' on the tablet and it appears on the screen, then if it's ok, you click to confirm and it transforms it into type! Of course, not being up to speed with it yet, it takes me forever! lol

Better late than never

Today's word is 'Cute' and what (or who) could be cuter than my youngest grandchild, Saffron Bindi! She had her nursery party today, so Kerry asked if Tim and I wanted to go to see her getting her pressie from Santa, who was rumoured to be in vicinity! I grabbed my camera and this is the result.

Well would you believe it, I actually found time to do a bit of crafting today! In fact, I managed to get some of my Christmas Journal done!! Shock!
After the despair of yesterday, I decided to force myself to have a little 'me' time and I got my covers made and three pages too! No piccies to post as yet though!

Glow

I wish I was a glow-worm,
A glow-worm's never glum.
Cos How can you be gloomy,
When the sun shines out yer bum?

Someone on the forum once posted this and I still think it's so funny! :)

Glow is the word of the day on HSMS today and here's mine ......

It's a cute ceramic cottage that my sister gave to me one Christmas a few years ago.

Sorry I've been absent for a few days. I'm on holiday and what with one thing and another, I'm finding it hard to find time to breathe, let alone take photographs, so i'm not going to try to play catch-up!

And don't even mention Shimelle's journal.

Not a hope in hell I'll get it done this year.

Not the covers.

Not even a page.

Nothing.

Nada.

Zilch.

Maybe next year?

Teddy!

The word today is Teddy and here the cute little chap that sits beside my monitor at work, keeping me company all day.

In my last post, I was talking about misheard lyrics. I knew there was a name for this and indeed there is. I remembered it just a wee while ago. They are called 'Mondegreens' because the chappie who named them, heard a poem where the lines go something like ...
"..... they hae slain the Earl of Murray and laid him on the green."

He misheard it and thought it was...
"..... they hae slain the Earl of Murray and Lady Mondegreen".

So funny!!

Give me the moonlight .......

...... give me the girls ..... and leave the rest to me! So sang Frankie Vaughan (I think). When I was little, I thought his name was Frank Yvonne. Lolol

It's so funny when you pick something up wrongly - like the lyrics to a song, for example. I'm sure there's a word for this, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is. Never mind. Remember the song 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers? For years and years, Kerry and I though that Hugh Cornwell was singing, "Golden Brown, texture like sun, lays me down with my mansheerons." We often used to wonder what mansheerons were, until Simon eventually pointed out that he was actually singing, " .... with my mind she runs." Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Oh, how we laughed!!

Getting hastily back to today ....

The word is 'Moonlight' and seeing as how there is NO MOON at the moment, here's one I took in July as I strolled round the garden late in the evening. Sorry about the noise, but it's enlarged a fair bit as it was also taken with the old Cybershot.

Tim cooked chicken breasts with guacamole salsa and mixed roasted vegetables, for supper tonight. He'd also baked another of Nigella's chocolate cakes this afternoon, so of course I had a slice of that too! Well, it would be very rude not to ........ wouldn't it?

Mmmmmmmmm!!

Finally for today, here are some more pics of Tim's frosty car! I've really cranked up the contrast in the third one, so you can see the patterns of ice on his sunroof.

Enjoy!

I'm back again!

After my week of having my in-laws staying, I'm finally back blogging .... albeit with a not-very-exciting entry!! This is mainly due to the fact that nothing very exciting has really happened in the meantime. Oh, apart from my birthday (HUGE thanks for all your birthday wishes! I was gobsmacked when I read them all!) and going to see Madness!!!

They were excellent! Lived up to my expectations and more. I didn't have my camera with me, but Jodie took quite a few pics on her phone and when I get them from her, I'll post some on here, if they're good enough!

The word of the day on HSMS is 'Frosty'. Now, I have to hold my hand up and admit that this is a real cheat, for two reasons ....

1) It wasn't taken today
2) I didn't take it

It's the roof of Tim's car and he took this shot when he went to get in the car in December 2005. The frost patterns are sooo lovely!

It was taken on the old Sony Cybershot camera, so the quality isn't so good, but the patterns are still stunning.

I remember when I was a little girl, we didn't have central heating and in the winter time, my big sis Irene and I would open the curtains in the morning and find the inside of the window covered with frost in exquisite patterns. Wish I'd had a camera back then.

I've given up all hope of making cards for Crimbo and have bought a few boxesful from Tesco instead. Norty me. :( I still have loads of presents to wrap, then parcel up to be posted. The lounge needs to be cleared out before we can even think of getting the tree down from the loft. SOOOOOOO much to do, so little time. I'm printing off the prompts for Shimelle's journal every day, but I somehow think it's all going to be in vain. :(

Oooooh .....

I got a pair of genuine Crocs last week.

In fact, i got TWO pairs. I got one pair in a pale beige sort of colour and the other pair in this lovely pale green colour.

I'm not known by my family and friends for wearing any colour other than black most of the time, so these Crocs are a real departure from the norm for me!

Kerry of course, is deeply ashamed of me! Lolol

I'm feeling much better today, although still bunged up. Ack.

For those of you that asked, my birthday is on Thursday 6th December.

For many, many years, Jodie and I have been HUGE Madness fans. This is kinda strange for a rock chick like me, but there ya go! I have everything that Madness ever released .... DVDs, videos and even their hilarious feature film, 'Take it or Leave it'.
Jodie and I used to go to London every year and visit Camden Town, where one year, we made it our mission to get photographs of ourselves in as many of their video locations as possible!
Sad? Maybe! But we had a ball!

Anyway ......

on my birthday this year .....
this coming Thursday .......
6th December 2007 ......
who are coming to play in the Exhibition Centre in Aberdeen?

MADNESS!!!!

In all the years as fans, we have never seen them live in concert and I honestly cannot wait! I managed to get 2 tickets for Jodie and I and it's just going to be absolutely fabby dabby!! The only bummer is, that I have work again next day! lol
