Geology Rocks!

So says a sweat shirt that Tim has. The word today over on HSMSHS, is 'Rock' - something there is no shortage of in this house, with Tim being a geologist.

Here are just a few of his collection.

This is a piece of barite that he collected from Foss Mine in Perthshire:


He also picked up this piece of pyrite from around the same place:


These last three are all fossilised fish and fish scales. The rocks were collected from the Achanarras Quarry in Caithness, Sutherland and date from the Devonian Period, which was 400 million years ago. Blimey!




And that is your lesson for the day!

Oooh they are all beautiful.

My daughter collects rocks, can't wait to show her when she gets in. :-)

great shots I love the second fossil one.
I used to have a big lump of rock with limpet trails on it, I love seeing fossils on rocks!
