In the Frame

The word today is 'Frame'. This is one that was originally plain pine, but I set to it with black and gold acrylics, then sealed it with matte varnish.

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

I think I'm feeling marginally better today, so hopefully it means I'm on the mend.

Fingers crossed anyway!

Lens, Paper and a Wedding!

After having a lovely day on Saturday at the wedding celebrations of my friends, Andrew and Fiona, both Kerry and I are now quite ill. It started off like a cold, but has steadily got worse and worse, until now I jut ache all over and am having cold sweats and other such horrible stuff. Apart from migraines, I really don't get ill so it's really not nice.

The word yesterday was 'Lens' -

This is what I use to take those 'Through the Viewfinder' photographs that you can see on my other blog, dedicated to TTV photography.

Today's word is 'Paper', so I think this is highly appropriate!

As promised, here are some more photographs that I took on Saturday. Please click for a bigger view....

It was a real privilege to be asked to take the photographs and although I was very scared, I thoroughly enjoyed it too!

Show Off Sunday ..... yes, I know I am a day late!

I was asked to take wedding photographs of my friends, Andrew and Fiona, on Saturday. They actually got married on top of a glacier in Alaska, but when they got back, they wanted to have a celebratory meal for their closest family and friends. I was very honoured, but extrememly nervous, to be asked to take photographs.

I will put some on my blog soon, but for now, this is one of my favourite shots of the table settings!

Braving SPS again!

By playing along with Our Space again, it means I have to brave the horrors of SPS (Self Portrait Saturday) once more! I'm sure I speak for more than a few of us when I say that this is the most difficult photograph of each week!

Never mind. Here I am in my new hat!

Have a lovely Saturday, everyone!

Friend .... or Foe?

The word today is 'Friend' and I didn't have a shot that was suitable ..... until I saw this in a pic I took yesterday in my garden.

I was so intent on taking a photograph of the fly in the middle of the flower, that I didn't notice his friend until I downloaded the pic onto the computer! Click on the pic for a slightly bigger view.

I wonder if he is waiting his turn, or waiting to pounce!

Very unusual was the match played at Wimbledon last night between Mahut (Fr) and Isner (USA)! I won't bore non-tennis people with the details, but it will be going into it's third day this afternoon!! Brilliant!

This clock was a gift a few years ago and I think it's unusual enough to use as my pic of the day today. The little mouse swings on the pendulum below the cat. I love it!

It was a glorious day yesterday, but it is cloudy again today. It would be so lovely to have a few sunny days strung together for a change.

Game, Set and Match!

I'm really enjoying the tennis from Wimbledon this fortnight. My late grampa introduced the pleasures of this game to my sister and myself at a very young age and we both still love it!

Of course, being a Scot, I'd love Andy Murray to win .... but I really like Nadal and Federer too. So long as the tennis is good, I don't mind who wins!

So, the word today is 'Game' and here is mine.

This is a reproduction old Monopoly game in a wooden box, with proper wooden houses and hotels and a folding board! Pity I have no one to play with now.

I have a 'thing' for scissors! It's hard for me to pass a stand selling them and not buy some!

So the word today, which is 'Cut', is perfect!

Our Space

I haven't played along with "Our Space" for far too long. I shall endeavour to take part as often as I can from now on!

The word today is 'Point'.....

I'm afraid these pencils aren't very pointed, but they kept on breaking as I was sharpening them and this is the best I could do!

More Handbags

After my success with my first handbag, I made four more too! They are very addictive.

So yesterday, I decided to have a go at making one to my own design. It took much longer due to the handles, but I got there in the end!

I made sure I still had an internal pocket that is big enough to hold my Blackberry.

All five of them ...

I really need to get enough money to buy some more fabrics though. All of these bags have been made using remnants from my fabric stash box, but I would love to be able to afford more of a selection.

Handbags from Gladrags!

On her blog today, my dear friend Eleanor has some handbags that she made herself. She very kindly also posted a link to the tutorial, so I decided to have a go as well!

I found this gorgeous purple fabric in my stash. It used to be a lovely top that Kerry gave me some time ago - and the lining used to be a pair of thin linen trousers, also from Kerry. I deconstructed them both ages ago, ironed and folded the pieces and tucked them away in my fabric stash box. Perfect for the handbag!

There is even a wee pocket inside! Although, with hindsight, I should have made it with the same fabric as the lining. Ah well, live and learn, live and learn!

If anyone wants to try making one too, the tutorial can be found here in Vintage RicRac.

I want to make some more now, but I don't have any more magnetic snaps for the closures. Once again though Eleanor to the rescue! She posted a link to a online shop that sells them so much cheaper than I can buy them in the shops. You can order them here, at

So of course, I ordered some and can't wait for them to arrive now!

Another Shoot!

I had another photoshoot with Jodie the other day. This time, it was with a wardrobe stylist, Fiona, who we are both friends with. We used an empty house as our location.

This is my absolute favourite from the day. I am so proud of this shot.

I wanted this one to have a vintage feel about it.

On the stairs.
Fiona made this dress especially for Jodie!

In the garden.

More to come soon!

Sports Day

Monday was Sports Day for all the pupils at my grandchildren's school. This year, we were lucky enough to be graced with a lovely sunny day.

Saffron (in the stripy top and black shorts) won her flat race .....

..... and got a sticker to prove it!

That's Cameron smiling in the background. :-)

Aaliyah wasn't placed in her class race, but still enjoyed it!

Here is Cameron, in the yellow t-shirt. But look at the boy behind him! Bless! :-)

Kali (the tall one) and her best friend Emily, practising the three-legged race. It's hard to believe that Emily is actually older than Kali!

Saffron, at full stretch in the skipping race. I love the look of happiness in her face.

She won again!! :-)

Aaliyah in the dressing-up race. It was far too hot for hats!

Cameron having fun in the sack race.

My son-in-law Simon had to leave immediately after this because he had to go back offshore. Before he left, he got a big goodbye hug from Kali.

I had a lovely time watching all the children enjoying themselves in the sun!
