Saturday again!

It's a SF4A (Saturday Free for All) again today. I love the monkey puzzle tree in my garden.

We planted it about 6 or 7 years ago and although it was very slow to 'get going' initially, in the past two years, it has really shot up!

Friday, 30 July 2010

I got a recipe from my mother-in-law a few years ago, for a delicious lemon drizzle cake. It never fails! I made one yesterday and once again, it came out perfectly!

It fits the prompt today, which is 'Something Edible'.

This definitely IS!

Before you ask ..... no, I have not eaten the rest of it by myself! I gave a few slices to my sister and brother-in-law! :-)

A Building

I always wanted a 'real' doll's house. Not a child's toy, but a proper doll's house for grown-ups. So, a few years ago, I bought a kit from the 'Hobby' catalogue and tried to assemble it myself. I failed dismally and had to get Tim to build it for me! But I don't mind, because I love it anyway. I'm afraid my granddaughters don't get to play with it though.

It is mine, all mine!

So this is my photograph for today's prompt, which is, 'A Building'.

It is furnished with very basic, cheap things at the moment, but when finances allow, I shall begin to replace them with better pieces.

Transport of Delight!

Well, not so delightful when the spectre of car insurance renewal rears its ugly head. But living in the countryside, it is almost a necessity, not least because bus fares are so expensive too!
Anyway, 'Transport' is the word today and here is my faithful chariot:

Yesterday evening, my sister Irene, my two daughters and my son-in-law had another movie night. This time, it was at Kerry and Simon's house and we watched 'The Big Lebowski' and also 'Life of Brian'. To be honest, saying we watched them isn't quite true. They were on and we saw bits of them, but we chatted, ate, drank and laughed through most of them! Still, a jolly good time was had by all! Roll on our next movie night, when the films of choice are going to be 'Dogma' and 'Jagged Edge'!

Favourite Thing!

This is the subject on Our Space today. What is my favourite thing? I have so many, really.
In the end, I have chosen two ..... crocheting and sitting at my little table by the patio doors.

This is a very, very simple summer weight blankie/throw for my bed. I was fed-up with all my odd balls of wool and BITS of balls of wool, so I decided that this would be the perfect way to use them up - and end up with something practical too!

Also, it will give me an excuse to go and buy NEW balls of wool once it's finished! :-)

Jodie at New Aberdour

Just some of the photographs I took of Jodie last week at New Aberdour Beach.

There is nothing as refreshing as an ice-cold glass of pure, clear water - with ice!

My beautiful tabby, Merry, always seems to be on high alert! She is constantly listening and looking at anything and everything!

She was sitting up on a wall behind my house, staring at Elvis on the ground, when I took this shot of her!

It's Saturday

So that means it's SF4A (Saturday Free for All) on Our Space today. Once again, it's a beastie in my garden!

Unlike the bees and wasps of a few days ago, this fly was very easy to photograph because it was just sitting on a leaf, sunning itself!

Friday, 23 July 2010

Remember a few weeks ago, I took wedding photographs for my friends? Well, I received a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from them as a thank you. This Bird of Paradise flower was in it and is just right for the word today.

Wasps and Bees!

I saw this chap whilst in the garden this morning.

I also spotted this bee flying through the honeysuckle a few days ago!

Thank goodness for telephoto lenses! :-)

Yesterday, the word was 'Wood'.
This tree is in my garden and I planted it many years ago as a little twig. Lat week, one of the multiple trunks fell over and split, so my brother-in-law sawed off the broken parts and I am hoping the tree survives.

The word for today is 'Bloom' and I found this lurking in amongst some shrubs.

Yes, it's another thistle! I thought I had managed to get rid of them all.

The first word for the week is 'Gem' so here are some sparkly jewels!

Look like a gorgeous day outside, so let's hope it stays for a few days!

Pebbles on the Beach

Today is SOS (Show-Off Sunday) and I've chosen this shot as mine.

Yet another photograph from New Aberdour Beach.

Saturday, 17 July 2010

Saturday Free for All.

I took this at Aberdour Beach earlier this week. I loved the old and weathered sign.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

It's another crochet-related photograph today!

The word is 'Pattern' and in most crochet books and mags, there are normal written instructions, plus a pattern in picture form.

I like to use the pictures best, but sometimes I need to use both in order to understand what I'm meant to be doing!

Hopefully, if the weather calms down a bit, I will be having another shoot with Jodie this afternoon. My third in one week! :-)

Time to Reflect

I have wanted to try crocheting a teacosy for ages and by good fortune, there was a lovely one in this month's "Inside Crochet" maqgazine. It comes with further instructions for a heat pad to sit the teapot on too!

I finished it yesterday and took this shot. But it wasn't until I downloaded it that I noticed the reflection on the table and 'Reflect' - also by good fortune - is the word for today!

Wednesday, 14 July 2010

Yesterday, i spent a lovely afternoon at beautiful New Aberdour beach, just a miles up the coast. I was there with Jodie and some friends and we were blessed with fabulous weather.

The curving bay is perfect for the word today.

Yes, the sea really was that blue!

Tuesday, 13 July 2010

I bought some lovely little embellies from a scrapping shop a couple of years ago. I still haven't used them yet!
They are covered with rust, so are perfect for the word today.

Another photograph from my shoot with Jodie at the weekend.

Monday, 12 July 2010

It would have been too easy to use one of the official shoot photos that I took of Jodie yesterday for the prompt today, which is 'Pose'.

So instead, here is a more relaxed one of her, posing with Phoebe, one of her her 5 cats.

All her cats are boys, even though two of them have girl's names - the other being Cleo!

Saturday Smile and SOS!

I have to come clean and confess that this isn't really a Saturday Smile because it was taken today (Sunday), but hey - it's only one day late!

I had a shoot with Jodie at our beautiful beach this afternoon, but it was too windy to do all we had planned. All of my shots were taken in the dunes and even there, it was windy.

My SOS (Show Off Sunday) shot is this sihouette of Jodie, enhanced just a smidgeon in Photoshop.

I will hopefully have more shots to put in here over the next couple of days!

I love the flavoured coffees from Starbucks, so I managed to get a pack of these five miniature bottles so I can make them at home. You only need a tiny amount in a large mug, because they are soooooo 'sweet' ........... which is the word for today! :-)

The flavours are: vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, hazelnut and gingerbread.

Have a 'Break'

Have a ......

Hot, Hot, Hot!

'Hot' seems appropriate for today because it looks to be glorious outside.

However, my shot for today has nothing to do with the weather at all!

I love this kettle because it changes colour constantly, even when it isn't on to boil. Sadly though, it has started leaking so I will need a new one very soon.

I ventured out yesterday to take some July photographs in my garden.

Yellow loosestrife.

A really old-fashioned honeysuckle. Nothing fancy, but the fragrance is mind-blowing in the late evening.

Spirea, bridal wreath. I love the detail on these tiny florets.

This little potentilla flower had a little visitor!

I bought a couple of new crochet magazines on Monday and haven't had a chance to have a proper browse through them yet. I shall make that my task for today!

Tuesday, 6 July 2010

The word today is 'Rough' and my intention was to go to our beautiful beach and take some photographs of the sea, because it is almost always rough. Today however, there is no wind, so I had to revert to plan 'B' and I took this instead!

It is 22 years ago today since I lost Graham, my first husband, in the Piper Alpha oil rig disaster in the North Sea. He was only 37 years old and I was widowed at 31, with three young children to raise by myself.

It remains the world's worst oil rig tragedy, with the loss of 167 lives. I still remember it as vividly as ever, even after all these years.

Science Fiction, Double Feature!

The word today, is 'Hold' and what better than a glass of chilled Aussie Chardonnay!

As you may have guessed from the title of today's blogpost, we were at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen to see yet another stage version of the brilliant Rocky Horror Show on Saturday! Of course, we just HAD to dress up for the occasion!

L to R: Gordon, Jennifer, Irene, moi, Kerry, Simon and Jodie in front!

In the car, on the way to Aberdeen:

We met our friends, who were in a separate car, outside the theatre ...

Afterwards, once we got back to Fraserburgh, we hit the pub!

Can't wait till the next time!! :-)
